Well, I finally decide to revise the content of this posting, since the previous content was more like a trash than a post; but people keep searching and viewing it.
Welcome to Palembang, dearest friend. And if you're looking for good culinary, here's the best place. Although I'm not so good as locals, but for those who aren't locals, this information (hopefully) could be a consideration.
1. Chinese Food: try to ask people about "Jl. Sayangan", it's a street filled with delicious Chinese dishes, in cheap prices! Each and every booth is delicious, but try to taste the one in the corner of the crossroad (damn, forgot the name) which has tables both inside and outside. The delicious menjangan (deer) hot plate only cost IDR 35k, the Cap Cay and vegetables are filled with various (and huge amount of) juicy toppings only for IDR 30k, swike for only Rp 30k, fishes and so on with quite satisfying portion. You can ask not to use pork.
2. Noodle: ALL Palembang noodles delicious. If you have time, try to find Mie Aloy (Jl. Dempo Luar no. 410, Palembang), and also Mie Terang Bulan (at the said Sayangan). But my favorite is located at Jl. Surya, near Simpang Sekip. It's a very simple place without name or any advertisement, but taste so good. You'll need to ask people where Jl. Surya is, and after you find it just go straight about 50m until you find two restaurants (well if you consider it's adequate to be called so) facing each other, and pick the one on your right side, the one which sells both Kwetiau and Mie. The "Sop Sayur Asin" also totally delicious! There also a really good "Mie Jawa" near Simpang Sekip, though a little expensive but I haven't found one like that in Jakarta.
3. Martabak Bangka near JM Pulau Mas (Jl. Kolonel Atmo, right in front of the small alley next to JM). Quite expensive, but worth so good! Try the "Jagung-Keju" Martabak.
4. Mie Celor 26, located in a small kiosk at 26 Ilir. Damn good!
5. Rujak Mie, Tekwan & Model, Pempek, Es Mamat, Pempek Panggang & Pempek Lenggang: I would suggest you to try the restaurant in Sandjaja Hotel for it's clean and not so expensive above-mentioned snacks of Palembang (well, all of them considered snacks). For cheaper (but also delicious) and complete snacks in one place, go try Pujasera at Jl. Veteran, right in the Ruko after Bangau crossroad. There are abang-abang gerobakan at Lapangan Hatta, too, which are very famous since my daddy's era, just go directly to Lapangan Hatta (Dempo) and ask locals about Es Mamat and pempek panggang. Es Mamat is es campur (mixed traditional ice) and you really should try it. I just don't know anywhere else to eat, because in Palembang, if you want to eat tekwan/model, it's everywhere on the street. If you can find a friend's Chinese mother, she might be able to cook a very good ones for you too! And if you can find her at the time of Chinese New Year, please be encouraged to ask her to take you around, because those culinary usually served at best on Chinese NY.
6. Martabak HAR, it's everywhere! One good spot is at Simpang Sekip. And don't forget to order Nasi Minyak Palembang, too!
7. Bebek Goreng near Ramayana, sadly I forgot the name. Just find it in front of Ramayana gas station. Seriously it's huge. And the sambal also damn good. Third kiosk on the right side.
8. Pindang Tulang, Pindang Patin, Pindang Udang: Pindang Meranjat, Jl. Demang Lebar Daun No. 14, or Pindang Musi Rawas, Jl. Angkatan 45 No. 18. Ask the waiter to bring you sambal mangga and iwak seluang.
Well, that's all. You can ask me directly by comments for other kinds of dishes, if I know where to find it :)) ENJOY PALEMBANG!
